Training in Obriy does not require a specialized workstation or complex additional equipment. A Windows PC, a compatible radio controller or gamepad, and hardware suited to the intended training tasks are enough to get started.
Here is what is needed to run the simulator.
For a smooth experience, the graphics card is particularly important, as it has a significant impact on terrain rendering quality, overall stability, and the complexity of scenarios that can be run.
For a comfortable baseline experience, we recommend:
This system is sufficient for stable performance across most standard training scenarios.
For higher graphics quality and more complex scenarios, the recommended setup is:
For resource-intensive scenarios and high graphics settings, including work with Obriy SITL, a more powerful system is recommended. In SITL mode, Obriy simulates the environment, terrain, physics, and external influences, while UAV behavior is determined by the connected autopilot, firmware, or another software component of the control system.
More about Obriy SITL and other simulator modes is available here.
Obriy can also run on less powerful systems. The minimum supported level is an NVIDIA GTX 1060 / GTX 1650-class GPU or newer, although performance limitations and occasional inaccuracies in physics simulation should be taken into account.
On such systems, lower graphics settings may be required, and overall performance may be more limited.
Integrated graphics may also be able to run the simulator at minimum settings, but a dedicated GPU is recommended for full use of Obriy.
Important for Laptop Users!
When running Obriy on a laptop, it is recommended to keep the device connected to external power. When operating on battery power, the system may automatically limit CPU and GPU performance, preventing the simulator from making full use of the available hardware resources.
The primary and officially supported platforms for Obriy are Windows 10 and Windows 11.
There have also been successful reports of running Obriy on macOS with ARM-based processors via CrossOver and on Linux via Proton. However, these operating systems are not officially supported, and compatibility issues may occur, particularly with radio controllers.
Training can begin with either a professional UAV radio controller or a standard gamepad, depending on the task and training format.
Obriy supports the same types of radio controllers used by UAV operators in real-world operations. This allows operators to train with familiar stick layouts and controls and to use the same type of hardware they work with outside the simulator.
Popular EdgeTX-based radio controllers are supported, including:
The radio controller connects to the computer via USB.
Obriy also supports Xbox and PlayStation 4 / 5 gamepads. These can be used for basic training, familiarization with control logic, and scenarios where reproducing the exact handling of a specific radio controller is not essential.
A compatible computer and controller are all that is needed to begin. In Obriy, training can progress from basic exercises to complex scenarios and full mission rehearsal.
